Summerwind, the largest Plaza del Amo complex, consists of
505 attached townhouse units that were built between 1987
and 1989 by Watt Industries. This popular complex is located
on the south side of Plaza del Amo midway between Crenshaw
Boulevard and Maple Avenue combines traditional Cape Cod architectural
styling with many contemporary features. Summerwind is fully
gated with an electronic control entry system. Three separate
recreation areas, each with its own pool, spa, and restroom
facilities are conveniently located for residents. Additionally,
there is a large community meeting room complete with a private
office and a separate kitchen area. A centrally located playground
for small children is another extra amenity. Greenbelt views
are available from most homes.
Two bedroom models normally range in size from about 1,088
square feet to 1,273 square feet. The larger three bedroom
models are about 1,404 square feet and offer an option that
expands the master suite to include a sitting area with fireplace
in lieu of the third bedroom. All Summerwind units have double
attached garages with adjoining laundry and storage areas
at the lower, street level. The second level consists of the
front door entry area, living room, dining area, kitchen,
and powder room. All bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the
third level. Two of the floor plans have wood burning fireplaces.
All plans have a private bathroom in the master bedroom. Kitchens
originally included oak cabinetry, ceramic tile counter tops,
gas ranges with microwave ovens, and refrigerator areas pre-plumbed
for ice makers.
There are six special units that were built for handicapped
buyers that have square footages over 1,600 square feet. These
units were designed to be wheel chair accessible at the first
floor level, include a downstairs bedroom.
